Jane Bassett

Lead and Backing Vocals

The following letter is being posted here with Jane's consent:

"Hi everyone,

Before Jimi de-activates me ;) I wanted to write you all and say how honored I am that I've been able to be part of this great band, and how sad I am to be leaving. Please believe me when I say that it was one of the most difficult decisions I've ever had to make, and that I will miss you all terribly. Even now as I write this, I want to take it all back; but I know that I cannot.

Many times, giving up something hurts, and for me this does hurt. But I feel like it's the right and only thing I can do at this point in my life. You all deserve someone who can be as dedicated as you are, and I hope and I'm sure that you'll find somebody wonderful. Although, I think you guys rock just the way you are. Doug, don't sell yourself short; you ARE the "bluesman!"

Thanks again, everyone, for a blast for the last 2 years. It was a priveledge to sing with you and I wish you all the luck in the world. I love you all.

Bye all,
Jane (Now and always, got the blues...)"

-----------------

Born and raised in Muskegon, Michigan, my love of singing began when I was just a child. My dad was a member of the Barbershoppers chorus, and my mom belonged to the Sweet Adelines, a women's barbershop singing group. I grew up surrounded by the sounds of barbershop harmony and my dad's extensive collection of big-band music. As a teenager I participated for three years with the Sweet Adelines and with a barbershop quartet. It was the influence of my parents and being always surrounded by singing that helped develop my passion as a vocalist.

I joined my first rock band, Maarx, at the age of 18. We were a contemporary lite rock band that performed mostly in lounge type settings around Muskegon. At 21, I formed a band called Fallen Angel along with my (then) husband on keyboards. The group we put together played top 40 style rock-n-roll in local area clubs, as well as serving as the opening act for the Romantics at the Galaxy Arena in Muskegon.

I was the lead vocalist for Tight Fit from its birth in 1987 until the band took a needed break in 1993. In addition to lead and backing vocals, I played keyboards and wrote original songs which we performed live and recorded in the studio. With the reunion of Tight Fit in 2005, I resumed the role of lead and backing vocalist. Other bands I have been involved with include Septre, Kyks and Power Play from Muskegon, and Sweet Revenge, a Grand Rapids based 80's hard rock band. For the past few years I have been playing bass and leading a worship team at my church.

Although the bulk of my experience as a vocalist has been in the area of rock, my first love is harmony. My favorite artists are varied, and my influences range from rock bands such as the Beatles and The Who, to the Motown sounds of The Temptations, the 4 Tops and Smokey Robinson. I am excited to be involved in The Big House Blues Band, where I hope to broaden my experience as a vocalist to include some of the great music I haven't had the opportunity to explore.
