Hello! We hope this newzletter finds you well as the holiday season is upon us.

New Year's tickets are selling fast!

As a reminder - don't forget to pick up your tickets for the Steak N' Blues New Year's Eve show as soon as possible. They are going fast and won't last much longer and we want to see you there, so please don't delay.

We will be using our newly purchased P.A. at the show with the esteemed Fred DeVries and Augie Miller at the controls. Our sound will be fantastic!

We've also been asked to record the show for radio broadcast on WGVU-FM - so don't forget to make lots of noise at the show so you can hear yourself on the radio!

More details are further down in the newzletter.

We can't wait to see you there - we miss you!

What's the latest on the new Album?

Well the band has been working feverishly writing new material. And there's some excellent stuff there, even if I do say so myself!

As we've noted before, we've begun work on about half of the album's songs already. And the new material coming out of our head's will compliment that work quite nicely!

Come January, we'll be hunkering down in the studio for further recordings and we can't wait! We're still shooting for mid-2009 for completion of the project.

Keep tuned in to bighousebluesband.com for further news on how things are progressing.

Notes from the band...

As the year wraps up, we thought it would be fun for members of the band to put together some personal notes to you for the newzletter...

Thanks from Big Daddy

I would like to thank you for supporting the Big House Blues Band thus far - purchasing our CD’s, T-shirts, and coming to our shows and being a big part of what we do.

Without the exuberance that you bring, we would just be rehearsing live.

2009 will bring some good things, like some talented new members, a new CD of original tunes, and camaraderie with new and old friends.

It doesn't get any better than this - from Jimi Ray

This year has brought many personal challenges my way. Although my hair may be grayer, I have an overwhelming sprit and feeling of "it just doesn't get any better than this!"

My band family is growing up and maturing and I'm very proud of the initiative and direction it is taking. This group of individuals has taken ownership of this wonderful organization and is commited to making it all it can possibly be. We have a group of extremely talented musicians who are just great people, and I'm proud to call them my friends.

We've also laid the ground work for lots of good things in the future. As we've become a more self sufficient organization, we've allowed for more doors to be opened and I'm excited at the possibilites.

BHBB, I love you guys and here's to a hopeful and prosperous 2009!

To my real family, I love you and can't thank you enough for your support, both personally and musically this year. You are, indeed, very special.

And to you, our audience and friends, I love you too and hope your 2009 brings everything you wish for!

Jimi Ray

It's Been A Heck of a Year - by Phil Chester

What a year! Being in a band has its ups and downs, and the Big House Blues Band is no exception. After I wrote up a bit about the New Years show on the BHBB MySpace Blog, I started looking back at 2008 and realized the band has been through a lot this year.

We started the year recording original material for our upcoming CD. Along the way two great female vocalists left the band, and somehow we found another fantastic one. Our bass player left, but we gained a great bass-man who, interestingly enough, was already with us once before. We didn't have the same horn section at each show we did, but we started the year with two full time horn players and have had as many as four horns on stage during the year. We boxed up the studio and moved it across town. All the while we were learning new tunes, meeting new people, and continuing to play shows.

We missed out on some shows we really wanted to do, but we didn't let that get in the way of preparing for the next one. The band saved its performance fees and was able to buy a new PA system and other equipment that will give the band more flexibility with the added ability to professionally record live shows.

Throughout the year we met each challenge with optimism and came out better than before. We took advantage of the opportunities before us and didn't let the ones that got away get the best of us. Despite what we've gone through this year we feel we are stronger than ever, the music is as tight as it has ever been. I think it shows what this band is made of and what we can accomplish and I'm proud to say I'm a part of it. We thank all of you Big House Blues Band fans for your support, and we hope to see a lot more of you in 2009!

Phil

An open letter to the band from Kelly Quinn!

Although being with the band only since June, 2008, it seems that fulfillment has settled into my musical world now that I am officially a member of the BHBB. I could never say enough because words cannot do justice to how "complete" I feel since singing with such a versatile, composed group of very special people. (Yes, I will repeat the words "... You... complete me.") Ha.

Seriously, after being a gypsy and traveling so many years between Nashville, Vegas and now coming back full circle to my home state of Michigan, I have to say in all honesty, that I have never had the opportunity to share music with musicians not only at the highest level of musicianship, but also wonderful people.  Each of you is personally and professionally at the top of my list of the many talented people I have met on my journeys!  The icing is that I feel like I just gained a new, beautiful family in 2008 and I am so looking forward to 2009!

Taking that one step further, the openness to musical suggestions and some room to move without ever making me feel like I am "less than", well that has been like a warm blanket around me. Believe me, you all... from the very beginning...have made me feel so welcome and loved.

So, here's to our new CD in 2009!

Namaste’
Kelly

Lexi's thoughts...

I'm not very good at writing things....but if I had to say anything it would be that I was nervous to join the band.... but now I feel like I have an extended family with the band, and the fans have been wonderful.  I've gotten a lot of positive feedback.  So, thank you all very much!  I can't wait to see how things come together when we get back in the studio. I'm looking forward to 2009.
